We were set a task to create a digipak for our artist. At first, I struggled with this task as I had never heard of a digipak. I thought that they were just CD covers but when doing a bit of research on them I realized that they are actually collectible items. Fans go out and buy digipaks to keep and read. Buying a digipak is a personal experience similar to a vinyl sleeve it is an experience you do not receive with a digital download. Now, this caused a few problems as the demographic for my genre is teenagers and young adults. This was an issue as they don't tend to go and buy CDs very often let alone spend more on a special edition cover. The dance genre is also very new so they don't tend to make physical CDs as the majority of the listeners favor digital downloads. I took two attempts to make my digipak:
First attempt:
This is my first attempt at creating a digipak. I went into this one and just put lots of random images on. I edited lots of the hues and saturation to change the colour of the backgrounds and this resulted in a confusing and intense mix of colours. I decided to scrap this one completely rather than try to change it a little. What I learned from this experience is not to go crazy with the images. Keep it simple to give it a more tidy and professional look. Be careful with font choice and chose a more solid colour scheme. I took what I learned and made another...
final attempt:
This is my final digipak. I decided to use the same colour scheme as my digipak poster so that Mrs.Bee had a consistent brand. I also think that it helps consumers identify that this is a Mrs.Bee Record. I re-designed the CD itself to make it bolder and clearer. I also feel that it is more interesting than the original yellow one. Again I messed around with the hues and saturation but I decided to use a consistent colour. I bought this through on nearly all images. I also decided to include lines from the song in the digipak. I did this to make links to her hit single. It also links to our narrative of female independence
